Join San Diego Green Drinks and Latinxs in Sustainability (LiS) for a panel and mixer on Thursday, April 18th! Our conversation will focus on understanding the personal journey our panelists took to get to where they are today in their careers.
WHEN: Thursday, April 18th from 6 - 8 pm. Panel to begin around 7pm.

About our speakers:
Roberto Carlos Torres, He/Him/El, is the Senior Program Manager of Public Engagement and Equity for the Institute for Local Government and serves as a member of the Governor's Office of Planning and Research's Integrated Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Program (ICARP) Technical Advisory Council. Prior, he served as the first Climate Equity Specialist for the City of San Diego and has worked to reimagine how San Diego’s Communities of Concern are best served. Roberto led the City’s efforts to co-develop the first-of-its-kind Climate Equity Index in partnership with various community-based organizations. He also instituted an innovative and more inclusive approach to community engagement. Roberto was part of the team that updated the City’s groundbreaking 2015 Climate Action Plan to be even bolder and more equitable. He earned a dual bachelor’s degree in Government and Communication Studies at Sacramento State University and has previously worked in the cities of San Pablo and Richmond, as well as in the Office of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and the California Energy Commission.
Dr. Yamilett Carrillo is a natural resource scientist and economist committed to creating coastal resilience as climate change has cascading effects on the livelihoods of vulnerable communities from headwaters to coastal ecosystems. She has a B.A. in Economics and a Ph.D. in Renewable Natural Resources focusing on Soil, Water, and Environmental Sciences. Her extensive work in environmental conservation and binational collaboration on environmental issues along the US-MX border spans over 22 years. Dr. Carrillo has first-hand experience in the intricacies of US-MX hydro-diplomacy and in surmounting the complexities of creating and strengthening nonprofit organizations. She is the founder of an environmental organization working on water markets and transboundary watershed restoration. She is well versed in the challenges nonprofit leaders face when growing a nonprofit from a concept to a leading-edge organization building binational collaboration. Before becoming a Senior Program Manager of the Binational Resilience Initiative at the San Diego Foundation, she helped nonprofit leaders across Mexico and Central America develop their own organization’s strengths and track their progress toward nonprofit resiliency.
About Green Drinks:
San Diego Green Drinks (SDGD) is a monthly networking group for professionals or individuals interested in the sustainability field. We typically meet on the third Thursday of each month at a local bar to discuss different environmental issues with a speaker followed by open networking. These events are casual, drinking is optional, and anyone interested is encouraged to attend.
