Urban Ecology through Community & Culture
Friday, September 26
9:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Building 309 (Formerly Our Lady Star of the Sea)
New York, New York
About Event
Join The New York Climate Exchange, Latinxs in Sustainability, and Buro Happold—alongside professionals across urban ecology and planning—for a dynamic breakfast and discussion exploring sustainability through the lens of the Latinx community. This intersectional conversation will explore how identity and lived experience shape our relationship with the environment.
With a focus on urban forestry and environmental justice, the panel will examine disparities in green space access, community health outcomes, and environmental policy. Together, we'll reimagine sustainability as inclusive, culturally rooted, and led by the voices of those most impacted. Comunidad y cultura will come to life through an interactive papel picado activity.
Set against the backdrop of Governors Island, this gathering offers a moment of reflection and reconnection at the close of Climate Week NYC, and serves as an early celebration of Latinx Heritage Month. The event will spotlight Latinx sustainability leaders driving change across New York City and offer meaningful networking opportunities to build community and spark collaboration.

About Event
Latinxs in Sustainability is excited to introduce La Sala, a new series of virtual office hours designed to nurture inclusive collaboration and empower leadership within our community. Inspired by the familiar comfort of gathering in the living room to connect and share stories, La Sala office hours bring that same spirit online, creating a safe, supportive space where our members can gather, learn, and grow together.
We’re translating the energy of our in-person events into a digital format that makes it easy for members across geographies to connect.
